The List of Sustainable Brands That Have Closed Down
It can be difficult to keep track of all the eco-conscious brands that come and go. Here is a list of ethical and sustainable brands that have closed down operations.
Sustainable Businesses That Have Shut Down
Wearwell
Wearwell was an online boutique that was great for shopping ethical fashion. However, they shut down in 2024.
Check out my guide Where to Shop Ethically Online to find alternatives to Wearwell.
Made Trade
Made Trade also closed down in a not so ethical way leaving small business partners without payment.
You can learn more about this in my blog post What Happened to Made Trade?
Amour Vert
This one really bummed me out. Amour Vert made such high qaulity clothing and was one of my go-to sustainable fashion brands for special occassion dresses.
Amour Vert seemed to have shut down from investor issues. And has since turned into an odd fashion and news style site. Super weird in my opinion.
YUHME
Yuhme used to make incredibly unique water bottles from sugar cane. However, after being sold to new owners, the company closed down.
Such a bummer becuase I loved my Yuhme water bottle.
People Tree USA
People Tree made headlines in The True Cost documentary. I personally LOVED their clothes. It was sad to see the liquidation of People Tree Limited back in 2023.
Mara Hoffman
Mara Hoffman was a high end ethical fashion brand that closed back in 2024. You can read the statement here.
Matter Prints
Matter Prints made some beautiful ethical clothing honoring heritage prints, but they closed during the pandemic in 2020.
Here’s a sustaiable outfit I had with Matter Print pants and crop top. You can find alternatives to Matter Prints in our Fair Trade Clothing Guide.
Sensi Graves
Sensi Graves was a sustainable swimwear brand that closed after 13 years in business. You can find sustainable swimsuit alternatives in my Sustainable & Size Inclusive Swimwear Guide.
Dazey LA
Dazey LA was an organic cotton t-shirt brand and bright ethical fashion brand. However, they closed. Founder Dani focuses more on interior design now.
Discover other sustainable t-shirt options in my Ethically Made T-Shirt List or Colorful Sustainable Clothing Brand Guide.
Give a Damn Goods
This was my own online shop which I loved dearly. I had to shut it down due to the time I was spending fulfilling orders. Keeping up with all the inventory and day to day of running a shop in my home wasn’t doable for me anymore.
I do hope to bring it back in a more manageable way one day!
Hummingbird Candles
Hummingbird Candles was one of my favorite candle brands that used coconut and soy wax! They also used recycled glass containers. Sadly, they closed down in 2024. Explore our sustainable candle brand guide for alternatives.
If there are other brands you loved that have shut down share them in the comments.
