The Entrepreneurial Blogger
If you haven’t already heard by now…there is an Instagram crisis. Influencers, celebrities, and many other Instagram accounts have lost a decent chunk of followers the past two days due to a bug. For me, I lost a few hundred followers which sadly took away the 10K I worked so hard to finally reach, but mine was minor compared to some of the other accounts that lost thousands.
Another year has come and gone. I learned a lot in my first year as an official small business and I’m excited to take all the lessons learned into 2019 and continue to grow. These are a few of my entrepreneurial new years resolutions for 2019. I’m hoping that by writing them on the blog maybe I’ll be able to hold myself accountable!
How did you get so good at social media? This is a question I get ALLLL the time. A lot of people my age are going into marketing, communications, and social media management fields, so I get this question from students, friends, family, and small business owners probably at least once a week. The answer is pretty straight forward. I just did it.
If you haven’t already checked out the 2018 Ethical Holiday Gift Guide and the 12 Days of Shopping Socially Responsible, PLEASE do so! I worked really hard to create these resources for our conscious community. The truth about gift guides is they are actually pretty tricky to make. I love doing the research and creating these resources for you all! Hopefully you find them useful! Here are a few confessions about the tedious process of making gift guides!
Don’t get me wrong I love Instagram. It’s really helped me grow The Honest Consumer community and for that I’m thankful, but lately I’ve been chatting with some other small business owners and the latest algorithm changes have really got us beat down. Our likes and interactions don’t match up with the amount of followers because we’re not paying to play. I think it’s really sad. Instagram was, at one point in time, a tool for small businesses to grow, but now it’s another pay-to-play social media.
This post may seem self centered, haha, but quite often I get people asking how they can show their support. Honestly it means a lot. I’m not at a point where I can take a steady salary yet, so support from followers is greatly appreciate. Not necessarily financial support, but spreading the word really helps grow our community!
When I launched my blog as a sophomore in college I had no clue what I was doing. I never thought that my silly blog would be something thousands of people read....or something I could turn into a business. I started my blog with no knowledge. Here are a few mistakes I made as a beginner blogger that could save you some time and money AND grow your community quicker.
A lot of brands want free promotion...and I do free blog posts sometimes because I'm passionate about social impact and I want to spread the word. I'm not just in it for the money.
Yes, by traditional blogging standards I'm not the best....but at least I'm honest about it. I'm probably the most inconsistent blogger that you follow, but hey I can't help it. That's life for me.
Where are you based? How do you find new brands? Do you make money off your blog? In this post I answer all the questions.
