Meet Sip & Ship: The Small Business Making Shipping More Personal

I’ve been a customer at Sip and Ship for a few years and I adore this business!

Sip and Ship is a one stop shop for shipping, coffee, and gifts in Seattle. From the fun goodies to buy, the yummy pastries, and the great customer service, it’s a gem!

Sip & Ship partners with USPS, UPS, FedEx and DHL to meet everyone’s shipping needs. As a customer, I can say with confidence the Sip & Ship staff is SO knowledgeable.

I love the convenience of being able to drop off my package, grab a latte, and find the perfect greeting card or gift.

Plus, I appreciate how intentional Sip & Ship is! This small business encourages people to slow down, enjoy a cup of coffee, and stress less about shipping their goodies.

Sip & Ship founder, Diana Naramore, was kind enough to answer some questions and share the vision behind her business.

Q&A with Sip & Ship Founder

In this interview we’re exploring ideas around creating an intentional business, good customer service in the era of automation, the role of small business in communities, and other meaningful topics of conversation!

What inspired you to combine shipping, coffee, and gifts into one place?

Sip and Ship grew out of a simple idea: shipping can be stressful and impersonal. We wondered what it would feel like if the place people went to ship something actually felt welcoming and friendly.

Coffee brings people together, gifts help people express care, and shipping connects people across distances.

Many people first walk in just to ship a package, and then they notice someone enjoying a cup of coffee, see the shelves of cards and gifts or smell cookings baking. Often they pause and say, “Wait…this is more than a shipping store.”

Our vision has always been that someone could walk in as a stranger and leave feeling like a neighbor or a friend.

As a customer I know Sip and Ship has a very inviting energy and feels like more than just a shipping service. How intentional was that when you designed the business?

It was very intentional. From the beginning we wanted Sip and Ship to feel warm, welcoming, and easy for people to step into. Shipping may be the practical reason people come in, but the experience is what we focus on.

Sometimes the customers come in focused on an errand and pause because they smell cookies baking or notice someone sitting with a cup of coffee writing a card. Those moments turn a simple visit into a personal experience.

What does “good customer service” mean to you in an era where many services have become automated or impersonal?

Good service today is about preserving the human element. Automation can be efficient, but people still want to feel acknowledged, understood and cared for.

We often see customers stressed over something important—a passport to overnight, a birthday package, or urgent documents. Slowing down, walking them through their options, and handling the package carefully can completely change the experience.

Behind almost every package is a relationship that matters to someone, and remembering that guides how we serve.

What role do you believe small businesses play in the community of a neighborhood?

Small businesses are the fabric of a neighborhood. They create places where people run into each other, have conversations, and feel a sense of belonging.

At Sip and Ship, someone might come in for coffee or to pick up a package and end up chatting with a neighbor they hadn’t met before. Those small interactions add up over time, making the shop a hub for community connection.

What lessons do you hope your children take away from growing up around the family-owned business?

I hope they see the value of hard work, resilience, and treating people well. Running a small business requires courage, perseverance, and humility.

Our children have seen that success isn’t just about building something—it’s about showing up, solving problems, and caring about the people around you.

What does it mean to you (and/or your family) when customers support your small business?

It means a great deal. Every customer who walks through our door is supporting a dream, a team, and the community we’ve built. We never take that for granted.

Is there anything you want potential customers to know about choosing to support Sip & Ship versus a traditional shipping service?

When you come to Sip and Ship, you get the convenience of professional shipping, but also the care and attention of a small, locally owned business.

Our team treats customers like they would their own loved ones—helping them choose the best shipping options, packing items carefully, and stepping in to solve any problems.

Along the way, customers often discover something unexpected—a card, a gift, or a cup of coffee to pause and enjoy—and, even more importantly, a place where trust and relationships are shared.

What advice do you have for other small business owners?

Stay connected to your purpose and the people you serve [this includes your team]. Challenges will always arise, but what sustains us is remembering why we started.

The joy of working with people and sharing a sense of community motivates us to keep showing up and giving our best.

Consistency and authenticity allow us to set healthy boundaries when needed—something far more valuable than trying to be everything to everyone.

What excites you most about the future of Sip and Ship?

What excites me most is watching the community continue to grow in it and around it. Over time we’ve seen people meet here, collaborate, celebrate milestones, and support each other.

Those connections are what make the work meaningful. Businesses evolve, but the spirit of connection is what matters most.

Thank you to Diana for taking the time to share the Sip & Ship vision with The Honest Consumer community!
