6 Books to Read to Help You Ditch Fast Fashion Forever
As someone who has been in the sustainable content creator space for over ten years, I’ve done my fair share of reading.
These are a few books on my bookshelf that I would recommend to anyone curious about ditching fast fashion or interested in being a more conscious consumer!

Sustainable Fashion for Dummies
Sustainable Fashion for Dummies is written by my friend Paula! She did a great job simplifying building a sustainable wardrobe and highlighting the importance of ethical fashion.
This book discusses topics such as how to switch to a more sustainable mindset, why fast fahsion is harmful, thrifting tips, brand recommendations, and more.
I think it’s a super easy and informative read. Sustainable Fashion for Dummies also makes a great gift for people interested in conscious fashion.
Consumed
Consumed is a great read that goes way beyond just fast fashion and explores the need for collective change in colonialism, climate change, and consumerism.
This book dives deep and provides thoughtful topics and questions that will help you reaccess how you’re buying.
I really loved Consumed and think it’s a great read for anyone interested in conscious consumerism and social justice.
Overdressed
Overdressed: The Shockingly High Cost of Cheap Fashion is like a textbook for exploring fast fashion.
This book features a lot of history and research on production, the impact of fast fashion on supply chains, and even explores popular name brands.
I found the history of production particularly interesting.
If you’re looking for a well researched read to convince you to leave fast fashion in the past, this one is for you!
Give a Sh*t
Give a Sh*t is a fun and casual read that outlines different ways to do better!
The “In Your Closet” chapter in the book highlights why fast fashion is harmful and offers approachable tips to create a more sustainable wardrobe.
Slow Fashion: Aethetics Meets Ethics
Slow Fashion Aesthetics Meets Ethics offers a casual read that is similar to a magazine. It features interviews with different people in the fashion industry including sustainable fashion designers, eco influencers, and other fashion advocates.
It also features experiences from the author, Safia Minney, in building People Tree and being part of The True Cost documentary.
I loved all the pictures throughout the book that gave it a magazine feel.
Source My Garment
Source My Garment is the ideal read for anyone interested in starting an ethical fashion brand. This book dives deep into responsibly manufacter offshore.
It has so many tips and questions to consider before launching a clothing brand. It’s written by Adila Cokar who founded The Good Tee organic clothing brand.
Hopefully my reading list provided some valuable books to start diving into ditching fast fashion and building a more ethical wardrobe!
