10:49 am: An Anxious Mind

Does anyone else ever have those days where the world just throws too much at you and you want to curl up in bed and cry? I’ve had a few of them recently. Days where the anxiety takes over me and I enter shutdown mode. I can’t think. I can’t be present. I can’t be productive. But I can physically feel the anxiety weighing down on me. Our little puppy dog has been sick for about a month and with multiple vet visits, waking up in the night with him, and having to take days off work to sit at the vet only to receive no answers….I’ve been struggling. I’ve fallen behind on work. I’m a sleep deprived mess. AND I haven’t been practicing adequate self care.

It's Time to Stop Bragging About How Little You Paid for Your Clothing

We all know the common style compliment response…..“ Thanks, I got it for $10” or whatever great deal the consumer feels they received. But quite frankly this is not something to be bragging about……low price isn’t always a good thing. It’s usually a sign of fast fashion which involves slavery, disrespect, and suffering. It indicates how we, as consumers, want immediate satisfaction in buying a lot for a little and view garments as disposable. And it probably indicates a low quality product that won’t last very long. I’m not saying this is always the case in a cheap find, but a lot of times it is. It’s time to rethink how we respond and focus less on bragging about the price because as Lucy Siegle says “Fast fashion isn’t free. Someone somewhere is paying.”

4 Fair Trade Coffee Brands Worth Trying

Fair trade coffee is an easy kitchen swap that encourages consumers to begin purchasing food products that invest in the farmers. This Valentine’s Day give chocolate that is made with love. Unfortunately the cocoa industry is known for slavery and unethical treatment of workers. My anxiety took over. My mind felt cloudy. So much to do. I didn’t know where to start or how to jump back in. And it started to consume me. Couldn’t sleep which took away my focus which decreased my productivity. This isn’t the first time something like this has happened. I tend to beat myself up when these mental health moments (by moments I mean weeks of fogginess) happen because I feel like I’m failing my business and our community. And I know I shouldn’t. Mental health is real and it’s important. I have the privilege and opportunity to be self employment which allows me to stop and address my mental health when I need to.

How to Give Meaningful Gifts This Holiday Season

I think part of consumerism that is often overlooked around the holidays is the act of giving meaningful gifts. Often times we see people buying to buy, such as black Friday where we see consumers buying just for the sales, not for items they need. Buying a crazy amount of gifts just because, not items people actually want or will use. This mass impulse buying prevents consumers from stopping to think stop and reflect on what they are buying. Here are a few ways to focus on giving meaningful gifts this year.
