7 Things I Wish I Knew Before Buying Caraway Non-stick Pans

By now we’ve all seen the viral Caraway pans! The stunning colors, trendy design, and non-toxic non-stick coating have been all over social media.

I’ve been using Caraway pans for five years and wanted to share a few things that I wish I knew. Hopefully my thoughts will help conscious consumers decide if this cookware is the right choice for their kitchen.

You can even read my three year review of Caraway cookware.

To be honest, I have been gifted some Caraway items over the years including my first cookware set. However, I’ve enjoyed their products so much that I’ve also made my own purchases.

What to Know Before Purchasing Caraway’s Non-stick Cookware

Let’s get into my tips for what buyers should know before purchasing Caraway products.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO BUY THE ENTIRE SET

While the entire cookware set can be a beautiful addition to your kitchen, you don’t have to purchase it all. The set can be pricey and for some people it makes more sense to just buy the pans individually.

After using Caraway cookware for five years, the pans I use the most often are the fry pan and the sauté Pan.

If you can only get one, I’d recommend the fry pan. I use this to cook my eggs nearly every morning and I love how easily the eggs slide off.

So, depending on what type of food you cook most often, that might determine which pots and pans you buy.

PICK A DARKER COLOR

My first set of Caraway cookware was the sage and I loved that color. However, my next set was white. I chose white to try to match the colors of my kitchen, but I wish I had opted for a darker color again.

The white shows stains and marks from moving your pan around on the stove more so than the darker colors. This is the bottom of my white fry pan after two years of use.

I use this pan almost everyday to cook my eggs and it shows.

FOLLOW THE CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS ESPECIALLY WITH LIGHTER SPONGE

Following the cleaning instructions is ESSENTIAL for making the non-stick coating last as long as it can.

In our household we were diligent about using a soft sponge to clean the pans.

We use the soft side of Full Circle’s Cleana Colada coconut sponge to clean our pots and pans.

I’ve seen others on social media who have used harsher cleaning brushes and sponges and their pans do not last as long.

THE NON-STICK can become less effective over time

While I wish I could say the non-stick coating lasts forever, the non-stick coating declines overtime. I had my first set of Caraway pans for three years and I felt like after three years it wasn’t as good as it used to be.

However, this is standard with any non-stick pans.

While the non-stick coating wasn’t as good as it used to be, it was still somewhat effective. I passed this cookware set on to a family member before I got my new set.

My family members are still using the original cookware set…making it five years old and still in use.

This shows the pans themselves are well made, the coating just becomes less effective over time as all non-stick pans do.

THE MATCHING LIDS ONLY COME WITH THE FULL SET

I purchased a Fry Pan to gift to a family member, but what I didn’t know is they would be unable to purchase a matching lid.

While Carway does sell glass lids for the pans, the matching colored lids are only available if you purchase the entire set.

Heat Limits

While these pots and pans are oven safe up to 550°F, when cooking on the stove consumers should use low to medium heat when cooking.

Thankfully, I knew this going into it, but some of the people I purchased Caraway cookware for were unaware. This is a key point to consider before purchasing.

THEY HAVE OPTIONS OTHER THAN JUST NON-STICK

If you’re concerned about the non-stick coating lasting, consider the stainless steel set. I’ve had their stainless steel cookware set for two years and really love it. I also have the cast iron pan and that is another piece of high quality cookware I’ve enjoyed.
