This Thanksgiving I’m feeling extra thankful for my entrepreneurial journey and for those who have been there to support me on the way through it! Check out 11 Things I’m grateful for!
1) Support from my significant other
Jake is supportive in SO many ways and I’m incredibly grateful for it. I’ve said before that I’m not at a point in my business that I’m able to take a steady salary, so having a significant other that is able to see my passion and be understanding of that is something I can’t express my gratitude for. He encourages me to follow my dreams which is incredible! And he even doubles as a photographer sometimes too!
2) Ability to express creative freedom
For most of my life I’ve felt trapped in a box due to school. It’s unfortunate and I’m not the only one. But one of the things I’m most grateful for in my entrepreneurial journey is the opportunity to express my creative freedom. I’m able to take my blog in whatever direction I want. And I get to explore my creativity in quite a few different ways….graphic design, photography, styling, writing, you name it, I’ve probably done it! And I wouldn’t have it any other way! It’s led me to some creative places I never would have imagined!
3) My business makes me get out of my comfort zone.
I usually like to play it safe and stay in my comfort zone, but when you’re running a business sometimes you have to wear multiple different hats. My business has made me more comfortable with being uncomfortable. I’ve learned that entrepreneurship is a journey and a learning experience. You never know what the day will bring and sometimes you just have to roll with it even if that means doing something you’re not 100% comfortable with.
4) Being transparent and being embraced for it.
Through out this whole journey I’ve been pretty transparent about struggles, specifically my anxiety. When I first started writing about this I was scared. And rightfully so. Mental health isn’t something that’s talked about, but it should be. And I wanted to be part of the conversation. And maybe even a conversation started. I’m so grateful that when I did become transparent with my struggles our conscious community was supportive and embraced me as I am, an imperfect work in progress. Honestly, it was freeing to be open about my struggles. It was inspiring to see others reach out to me and share their mental health journey too because this is a conversation we should be having.
5) A solid community & organic following.
We hit 10,000 Instagram followers this week!!!!!!! That is incredible! Crazy organic growth for a community to experience in two and a half years and I couldn’t be more grateful! What I do wouldn’t have as great of an impact if it wasn’t for caring consumers like you who are willing to take part in this conscious community. There are so many beautiful souls who read, follow along, and reach out! For that I’m incredibly grateful.
I wouldn’t be where I am without the help of some incredible people. I’m grateful for those who have been in the field longer than I have and have taken the time to help me. Through these relationships I’ve become more comfortable knowing when to ask for help and knowing that it’s okay to ask for help.
7) Seeing so many people advocating for change
There’s a lot of craziness going on in our world right now and fighting for social justice can be exhausting. But it’s really inspiring to be connected with change-makers around the world and see the good work everyone is doing. There is so much good going on.
8) Support from friends & family
My friends and family have played such a key role in growing my community. Even though social media is so huge, word of mouth is still so effective! My friends and family have been able to see my passion and help spread the word which means a lot! They’re always willing to help out too, whether that’s snapping a photograph, working a booth, or just talking up The Honest Consumer! I’m so grateful for all the loved ones in my life! There are so many that are not in the picture to your right!!!
9) The places my blog has led me.
The Honest Consumer has led me to some awesome places and made me put myself out there. Shoot, I got to go to LA last week for a Fair Trade Fashion show….how cool! I’ve been able to witness some of the work being done by the change makers I’ve worked with which is super cool! Being able to see the change first hand makes my work so much more meaningful. I’ve also been able to meet some of my online friends in real life which is always fun!
10) Honest business relationships with brands
The brands I work with are doing incredible things! It’s so wonderful to be able to grow together! I’m grateful for their patience and understanding in this journey. They have been so supportive the past two and a half years and I’m glad that they understand the entrepreneurial process and are able to be part of this incredible community. Honestly, this community wouldn’t be possible without them!
11) Fighting my anxiety
My entrepreneurial journey pushes me to fight through my anxiety everyday. I used to be anxious to drive on the highway, talk on the phone, and so much more, but because of my passion for what I do I push through these anxieties everyday. It’s really helped me grow as a person and it prevents my anxiety from controlling me which is so important. I’m able to live my life and pursue my dreams while battling this.
