Consume with Love: The Online Market for Fair, Vegan Goods

Consume with Love was born out of the passion for social justice and sustainable living. Founded by sisters Megan and Michele, these two discovered that their unique interests could come together for the greater good. Megan, a sociology professor, had been covering issues such as unfair labor practices and social inequality in her classes. Michele was inspired to live environmentally friendly when she began researching, and taking part in, a plant based diet. The entrepreneurial sisters began blogging about social justice and the environment.

After their blog quickly gained popularity Megan and Michele wanted to expand, making it easy for consumers to find what they are looking for in an ethical manner. Today, Consume with Love is an online marketplace providing ethical options for shoppers.

Shopping ethically can be overwhelming, but luckily Consume with Love is a great place to start. There are a lot of different aspects to ethical: eco-friendly, ethically made, sustainable, fair trade, vegan, and the list goes on.  Everyone has their own ideas of what ethical is. As The Honest Consumer, I believe that even if you focus on just one element of the ethical spectrum you are taking a step in the right direction and making a difference. When I asked Consume with Love's co-founder Megan how she would define ethical she responded, "Everyone has their own box and there is no such thing as perfection. I believe ethical means being eco-friendly, buying less stuff, and that the people who make the product have a good standard of living." Consume with Love focuses on cruelty free, sustainability, and fair trade products. This online boutique strives to bridge the gap between vegan and fair trade goods. While a lot of conscious shoppers buy either vegan or fair trade goods, Consume with Love provides goods that encompass both characteristics.

Currently Consume with Love is primarily an online marketplace, but Megan and Michele have recently started doing vendor fairs in the Dallas area. As Megan and I discussed the struggle of shopping in the mall as ethical consumers, she mentioned that Consume with Love hopes to eventually expand into a store front.

I appreciate that Consume with Love has a variety of products that support diverse causes. The Dainty Beaded Necklace, as pictured and found on Consume with Love's website, provides employment to refugees.
