WOW! I am in love with these boots from RockPillar. The beautiful weaving compliments the high quality leather making these shoes unique. RockPillar is dedicated to providing a fair salary for artisans in Peru, while incorporating their traditional weaving techniques into modern designs. A portion of proceeds are donated to Standing Rock Sioux Reservation to assist with food, firewood, legal support, and other necessities.
Co-founder, Alma traveled to Peru in 2013 to pursue international development and economic impact for communities working with agriculture. After spending time in nature, learning local customs, and developing relationships, Alma felt called to start her own business. She discussed the opportunity with her business partner and the two motivated entrepreneurs quit their jobs to move to Peru, in order to gain a better understanding of the culture. In 2015 Alma and her business partner developed a plan to create RockPillar.
The founders spent some time with a local cobbler to learn how shoes are made, which allowed them to grasp the concept of designing shoes. RockPillar incorporates local tradition into their modern designs. The traditional weaving practices have been orally translated from mother to daughter for thousands of years. Leather is locally sourced from a family owned tannery which creates small batches of leather processed in an organic way, using less chemicals. Shoes are currently designed in Oregon and produced in Peru by the local artisans. RockPillar has worked with thirty-five weavers and five cobblers throughout the years. Artisans and cobblers are paid a fair salary which allows them to afford classes and further personal growth.
RockPillar is on a mission to encourage consumers to purchase items of high quality and know that their purchase has a direct impact. Their business model allows artisans to support their families, further their education, and incentivizes the preservation of the ancient weaving techniques. The purchase of shoes from RockPillar also supports Standing Rock. A portion of proceeds are donated to Standing Rock to assist with costs for food, firewood, legal support, and other necessities.
I am in love with my Sumaq Boots from RockPillar. These boots are incredibly well with their full leather sole and bright colors. Not only are these boots practical for your winter wardrobe, but they are also a beautiful work of art. RockPillar boots can be found online, at various vendor fairs, and in stores in Oregon, Minnesota, and Maine. I encourage you to check out how RockPillar combines ancient tradition with current trends.
