COOL STUFF. Novel Creature is a great online outlet for finding innovative accessories made from recycled t-shirts. Novel Creature gives these used fabrics a new life and keeps them out of landfills. Not only are these goods ecofriendly, but they are also giving back with 10% of profits going to a Tennessee non-profit, AGAPE. AGAPE provides families in need with counseling, psychological services, adoption services, and crisis foster care.
Novel Creature’s founder, Marissa, was inspired by the high volume of clothing going into landfills and wanted to repurpose these garments. Marissa is a passionate school counselor who wants to raise awareness of the importance of mental health, which is why she chose to support AGAPE. I think the slogan on the website sums up the goals and inspiration of Novel Creature, “Repurposed for good. Bringing new life to discarded materials and marginalized people.”
Novel Creature products are ethically made, environmentally friendly, and trendy! There are many cool items to chose from such as necklaces, headbands, clutches, and plant holders. I purchased this plant holder for $25. It is well made and I love the unique pattern created from the dye. Marissa hand dyes all her items so no two pieces are alike.
Currently, Marissa is selling at local vendor fairs in the Nashville area, including the Nashville Farmers Market. Novel Creature’s goods are available in a few Tennessee stores and online at Novel Creature’s website. Marissa had an exciting opportunity when her products were featured in Southern Living Magazine. Marissa is working really hard to expand Novel Create and she is doing wonderful work. I am excited to watch her business continue to grow!
