Weighting Comforts is making it possible for troubled sleepers to catch some z's with weighted blankets. Weighted blankets have been used to help people with anxiety, depression, PTSD, autism, and insomnia reach a relaxed state. This family run company also provides employment opportunities for refugees through their partnership with the non-profit Sew for Hope.
Weighting Comforts was founded by mother & son duo, Donna & Josh. While working on her masters degree in therapy, Donna witnessed the comfort weighted blankets brought to individuals struggling with anxiety. After being asked to make a few blanket for patients, Donna decided to join forces with her son Josh and launch Weighting Comforts.
So how do weighted blankets work? Each blanket is filled with non-hazardous, FDA approved pellets creating an added weight. Customers are encouraged to choose a blanket that is around 10% of their body weight. The added weight from the blanket works like a deep tissue massage, aiding the release of serotonin. Serotonin then turns into melatonin which encourages our bodies to relax and fall asleep. Weighted blankets have been known to help people with anxiety, depression, PTSD, autism, and insomnia find a relaxed state.
Weighting Comforts partners with Sew for Hope to provide employment opportunities for refugees who have settled in Middle Tennessee. Sew for Hope is a non-profit that provides sewing machines and teaches international refugees sewing skills. Weighting Comforts has been able to provide jobs to 32 refugees. Weighting Comforts goes above and beyond by hosting English classes for the refugees, allowing them to further their knowledge and open the door to other opportunities in America.
Weighting Comforts has three lines of blankets: the COOLMAX, Quilting Cotton, & Flannel. The COOLMAX is designed to keep the consumer cool, while still providing the sense of security with the weight of the blanket. The Quilting Cotton series of blankets are designed for more neutral temperatures and the Flannel is designed to add a bit of warmth along with the feeling of relaxation.
As many of you know I struggle with anxiety, I quite often have the sense of restlessness causing me to lose sleep. Over the past month I've been using the Aqua Spray Weighted Blanket. I am grateful for the sense of security and safety that my weighted blanket gives me. It creates a feeling of comfort when I'm anxious or on edge, helping me relax. Honestly, it did take me sometime to get used to my blanket. I tried the blanket for about a week before I found the sweet spot. I tried my blanket over the comforter, on top of the sheet, and directly one my body. For me, I found that putting the blanket directly on my body helps me the most.
The blanket is well made with high quality materials and wonderful stitching. I love that this blanket is ethically made and comes in a fun aqua color! I think this an excellent product worth trying if you struggle with anxiety or insomnia. Each blanket comes with a 30 Day Sleep Better Guarantee, so if the blanket doesn't help you, you get your money back. It's really worth a try especially if it can help you get a good night sleep!
