Haiti Made founder, Will met his colleagues in college by playing in a Christian band, Audio Adrenaline. The successful music group felt that God was encouraging them to use their stardom to make a difference and help those in need. This led to the creation of the non-profit the Hands and Feet Project which provides family style living to at-risk children in Haiti. In the living quarters kids are able to learn valuable life skills and build relationships.
Will wanted to take action concerning the issue of children with living parents becoming orphans in Haiti. In Haiti, it is common for kids to be sent to orphanages even if their parents are still around because the intense poverty leads parents to believe an orphanage can provide more for their children. Will wanted to create employment opportunities for these parents, allowing them to keep caring for their children. At this point in time the Hands and Feet community was growing. Kids were becoming young adults who were also in need of employment.
As Haitians are incredibly dedicated workers, Will wanted to start a social enterprise that would empower the Haitians to learn new skills, pay fair wages, and allow Haitians the opportunity to lift themselves out of poverty. It is reported that one job in Haiti supports up to fifteen people because of the tight-knit, family oriented culture (Haiti Made). Therefore, sustainable employment is one of the key components for a brighter future. Eventually, the social enterprise Haiti Made was founded in partnership with the Hands and Feet Project. This amazing social enterprise has provided employment for 35 Haitians.
