Today is the third anniversary of a heartbreaking event, Rana Plaza. Rana Plaza was a garment factory in Bangladesh which collapsed due to unsafe working conditions, taking the lives of over 1,000 people. Despite complaints towards the condition of the building, action was not taken, and tragedy struck. These people lost their lives from fast fashion. It’s unacceptable. The lives of factory workers are just as valuable as anyone else’s. They deserve a fair wage. They deserve safe working conditions. They deserve to have a voice.
As consumers, we have a strong voice. We can speak up for those factory workers. Your purchase makes a statement. Make an effort to support the companies striving for change. A few months ago, I purchased some PACT socks. I LOVE them. So cute and cozy. However, I get it, buying fair trade can be difficult. Typically, the prices are a bit higher, but shopping fair trade is just like shopping for a designer brand. You have to shop it right! Be on the look out for sales, join rewards programs, surf the web, but most importantly remember your extra dollar could change someone’s life. A three pack of PACT socks is usually around $24, however, I was able to find mine on Amazon for $12 because they were the designs from last winter. PACT is having a 25% off sale right now! And if you don’t want to pay for shipping, you can PACT products at your local Whole Foods.
