As environmental journalist Lucy Siegle said, “Fast fashion isn’t free. Someone, somewhere is paying.” After watching The True Cost, an eye-opening documentary about fast fashion, I was left with goose bumps. In honor of Fashion Revolution Week, I want to encourage you to watch this documentary too. WOW. This is powerful stuff. The True Cost addresses issues such as working conditions in factories, environmental effects, consequences of pesticides, and the power we have as consumers. By the end of the documentary you will be questioning all your purchases.
The True Cost tells the stories of individuals making your clothes. There is a need for change. Lives should not be lost to keep up with consumer demands. As consumers, we have the power to speak with our purchases. Educate yourself and know what you are supporting.
GO WATCH! The True Cost is easy to find! It is on Netflix, ITunes, and Amazon. The preview is linked below. Special thanks to Kate Barnes for introducing me to this documentary. I am so lucky to have such supportive friends.
